My aunt Joyce and I have always had a common interest in fashion and I think our personal frustration with basic high street fashion in Glasgow encouraged us to push forward with Saint Genevieve. We had spoken about opening our own store for a long time but never really believed we could actually do it and then last summer, after countless bottles of wine and hours of sitting round Joyce’s dining room table we decided to take the plunge and go for it! Originally our vision was to open a vintage clothing shop however, after finding so many independent brands and designers that we loved the concept for Saint Genevieve grew.
The store launched on Friday the 15th of April – we also had a little launch party the following Thursday for friends and family which introduced everyone to Saint Genevieve.
The east end is close to both of our hearts as we have both grown up here; Dennistoun especially is such a vibrant and up and coming part of the city at the moment and we are hoping Saint Genevieve can add to the blossoming cultural surroundings. Duke Street has a lot to offer and it’s nice to see more and more independent businesses opening in this area.
I think coming to Saint Genevieve, customers can expect to find something different. From exotic prints to 50’s inspired styles we truly believe can offer an alternative to those who are not looking for high street fashion. Saint Genevieve is a bright, intimate and welcoming boutique with a nostalgic twist and we hope everyone experiences this when they visit.
I think what makes us stand out is our unique variety of style. We have also hand-picked all pieces in store ourselves and treat Saint Genevieve as an extension of our own personalities and fashion sense; my aunt and I being very different from each other creates our eclectic range. We are also working with other brands and designers at the moment and plan to introduce more alternative fashion to the store in the near future.
Hannah ‘Personally my favourite piece we have in at the moment is our Sister Jane lilac sleeveless shift dress with black tie collar detail – for me this dress has a 1920’s flapper style feel to it which I love!’
Joyce ‘I love the Aqua, marine and gold african print dress by Mollie Brown – it is so different to any of the prints found on the high street and would really stand out in a crowd.’
We have already picked our Autumn/Winter collection from a few new brands which we will be introducing to Saint Genevieve. We also have a few pop up’s booked over the next couple of months and plan on selling online by the end of summer. We are currently in the early stages of discussions with local designers to showcase their jewellery and clothing in store too.
