let’s go shopping

SHOPPING: OCTOBER PICK ME UPS

With the nights getting darker and the days getting colder, I think it’s only right to give myself a little treat when I get near the shops (and working in Debenhams means I’m constantly tempted to splurge a little).

One thing I know I’m good at is still shopping within my means; I still make sure I pay the bills and there is not a credit or store card in my name so I’m always on the lookout for stylish yet affordable pieces that make me smile when I buy them. I thought I would round up some of my fave pieces I have found this month – I would love to hear what you’ve been buying too so please leave a comment or tweet me @rachellawler_.
I’ve been looking at these boots since I first set eyes on them at The Daydreamer Afternoon Tea back in the summer, but I could not work out if the round toe was really me or not; turns out it is. I finally gave in and bought them in the Glasgow branch last week so maybe check there if you’re looking to purchase these snake print booties seeing as they’re sold out online just now. I can’t wait to wear them with cosy knits and leather skirts.
Black Quilted Bag, Topshop
I have a wish list of designer bags I strive to own during my lifetime. On the top of that list is the classic Chanel 2.55, but seeing as this is a dream which will not happen any time soon I settled for this little bargain. I let out a happy scream when I saw it was down to £10 – yes, a mere ten British pounds. It’s not available online unfortunately, but they still had LOADS in the Braehead store a few days ago.
Leopard Print Pens (x2 pack), Poundland
There is such a focus on adult colouring books at the moment and, as someone who has always found painting and drawing a nice way to pass the time, I was out buying pattern colouring books and a pack of pens straight away. I got a bit bored of colouring random flowers so I loved this gift of vintage fashion colouring – so much better! I also got a nice new notebook to continue my life as queen of to-do lists and leopard print pens because quite simply, I love a bit of leopard print.
I promise I’m not trying to rep Debenhams all the time, but I could not not mention this Savannah Miller jacket. I first saw it when I went down to London in August where Savannah herself talked us through the collection and I was mesmerized by the sequins – I knew I had to have it. When it arrived instore I was absolutely fan-girling and now its ALL MINE. I got the size up FYI if you were to purchase your own (you should).
Ever in the shower and think ‘what would make this shower SO much better..? If I smelled like an actual marshmallow’ then look no further. Seriously, this smells so good I want to eat it and keep making us buy it when out shopping because who doesn’t want to smell like sweets. The only thing that could make it any sweeter is using the cutest little pastel body puffs I got in IKEA – yay!
Blue T-bar shoes, New Look
Pink T-bar shoes, New Look
So, I may have a thing for t-bar courts if you haven’t noticed. I think it all started when I found out I can’t wear open toe shoes to work so the hunt was on for comfy court heels that still looked good. IK think I have completely ripped it as my collection has rapidly grown thanks to New Look’s famous shoe powers. I can’t find the blue or pink online, but they are down to £8 instore.
Pink Faux Fur Jacket, Warehouse
I love some faux fur for winter so could not resist this little bargain. Coloured faux fur is a nice little update for this season – I’ve yet to wear it out yet but know it will be a winter staple. This was a one-off on it’s own little sale rail so chances are there might not be many left in Warehouse, but this Miss Selfridge one looks cosy and – most importantly – is very pink too.
Leopard print scarf, New Look (available at Silverburn)
Do you know what I really really miss? Company magazine, especially it’s High Street Edit special. I have tried to fill the void with Marie Claire’s twice yearly fashion fix which rounds up all the season’s trends straight from the catwalk. I’ve yet to be able to really read the AW magazine yet so look forward to spending a day going through it page by page. One thing I am loving for AW15 is little print scarves on everything; decorating bags, worn around the wrist, in the hair – I loved this £2 absolute bargain leopard print design from New Look. As a nude lip lover, a bright lipstick is usually terrifying to me but I do love how bold this Illamasqua lipstick is – I’m going to brave it for autumn!
